We know USAA's claim process, Xactimate documentation requirements, and your rights as a Michigan policyholder. Let Phase III Construction help you recover every dollar you're entitled to.
If you or a family member served in the U.S. military, you likely have USAA homeowners insurance — and for good reason. USAA consistently earns top marks for customer satisfaction and claims handling. Their process is generally efficient and member-focused.
But even with a great insurer, storm and hail damage claims involve technical documentation that can significantly affect your payout. Xactimate line items, depreciation schedules, virtual assessment photo requirements — these details matter.
Phase III Construction has worked with USAA claims for over 33 years. We're not here to fight your insurer. We're here to make sure your claim is fully documented, accurately estimated, and that you receive every dollar of coverage you're entitled to under your policy.
Understanding the steps helps you avoid delays and documentation gaps.
File via the USAA mobile app, website, or by calling USAA. Have your policy number ready. Request your claim number immediately — you'll need it for all contractor communications.
USAA often begins with their Virtual Adjustment Process. You'll submit photos of the damage through the app. A virtual adjuster reviews them to determine scope. Phase III can help you capture the right photos to document all damage thoroughly.
If virtual assessment isn't sufficient, or if damage is complex, USAA assigns a field adjuster to conduct an in-person inspection. We strongly recommend having your contractor present during this visit.
USAA issues a scope of loss and estimate (typically using Xactimate). Review it carefully. If items are missing or undervalued, a supplement can be filed. Phase III reviews every estimate for accuracy.
Once approved, repairs begin. After completion, you submit documentation to USAA to recover the withheld depreciation (the gap between ACV and RCV). Phase III handles this paperwork.
Xactimate is the industry-standard estimating platform used by USAA and most major property insurers for residential damage claims in Michigan. It prices materials, labor, and overhead using regional cost databases that are updated regularly.
The challenge: Xactimate estimates are only as complete as the line items entered. A virtual adjuster working from photos — or even a field adjuster on a tight schedule — may miss items. Common omissions include:
Phase III Construction reviews every USAA Xactimate estimate against the actual site conditions. When we identify missing or undervalued line items, we prepare a supplement with full documentation — photos, measurements, material specs — and submit it directly to your USAA adjuster.
Free, thorough inspection of roof, siding, gutters, windows, and all exterior surfaces. We document every impact mark, crease, and fracture with professional-grade photo and drone documentation.
We review your USAA Xactimate estimate line by line and identify any missing items before you sign off on a scope of loss. What's left out is often just as important as what's included.
We coordinate directly with your USAA field adjuster, attend inspections, and answer technical questions so you don't have to. Our team speaks the same language as your adjuster.
When additional damage is found during repairs, we prepare and submit supplement documentation to USAA with full supporting evidence, including photos, measurements, and line-by-line Xactimate breakdowns.
We perform all approved repairs — roofing, siding, gutters, windows, fascia, soffit — with materials that meet or exceed USAA's specifications. Every job is backed by our workmanship warranty.
After repairs are complete, we prepare and submit the documentation USAA requires to release your withheld depreciation. We handle this paperwork so you receive every dollar your policy entitles you to.
Michigan law gives you the right to choose any licensed contractor for your insurance-covered repairs — regardless of USAA's Contractor Connection preferred contractor network. You are not required to use a network contractor, and your claim cannot be denied or reduced solely because you chose an independent licensed contractor. Phase III Construction (License #262000615) works directly with USAA adjusters and meets all documentation standards.
USAA's Contractor Connection is a network of pre-vetted contractors that USAA may recommend. The program can offer convenience — contractors are background-checked and their work is guaranteed by USAA. However, network contractors are not your only option.
As a policyholder, you have the right to hire any Michigan-licensed contractor. If you prefer working with a local contractor who has 33 years of SE Michigan experience and direct USAA claim relationships, Phase III Construction is ready to serve.
Your property's current value after depreciation. If your 15-year-old roof is damaged, USAA calculates what a 15-year-old roof is worth today — not what a new roof costs. This is your initial payment. Depreciation is withheld until repairs are completed.
What it costs to replace the damaged property with new materials of similar quality at today's prices. USAA typically provides strong RCV coverage. The difference between ACV and RCV is the withheld depreciation — money you're entitled to after repairs are completed.
After repairs are completed and documented, you can submit for the withheld depreciation amount. USAA releases this payment when you provide a signed completion certificate. Phase III manages this entire process for you, ensuring nothing is left on the table.
Phase III Construction offers free inspections for USAA policyholders across SE Michigan. We handle the documentation, the adjuster coordination, and the paperwork — so you can focus on your family.
