A clear overview of the Travelers Insurance claim process from filing to final payment.
Online at travelers.com/claims, by phone at 1-800-252-4633, or through your independent agent. Have your policy number ready before calling.
Travelers will assign a claim number and contact you to schedule a property inspection. Keep this number for all future correspondence.
A Travelers staff adjuster or independent adjuster will inspect your property. Depending on location and claim volume, this may be virtual or in-person.
Travelers uses Xactimate — the industry-standard estimating platform — to generate your damage estimate. Every line item uses regional pricing data.
You receive an ACV payment. If you have RCV coverage, the depreciation holdback is released after repairs are completed and documented.
If the initial estimate missed items, Phase III can prepare a documented supplement with photos, measurements, and Xactimate line items for Travelers to review.
Travelers uses Xactimate — the insurance industry's standard estimating platform — to price every line item of your repair. The estimate breaks your claim into categories: roofing, exterior, interior, general conditions, and overhead & profit (O&P). Each line item uses regional pricing data updated regularly to reflect local labor and material costs.
Reviewing your Xactimate estimate carefully is important. Not every adjuster captures every item, and Michigan's building codes add specific requirements that may not always appear in an initial estimate.
Phase III reviews every Xactimate line item and can document missing scope for submission to Travelers as a formal supplement.
Key facts Michigan policyholders should understand before and during the claims process.
Michigan law gives you the right to choose your own licensed contractor. Travelers cannot require you to use a preferred vendor list.
Travelers uses both staff adjusters and third-party independent adjusters in Michigan depending on claim volume and geography. Both use Xactimate pricing.
If Phase III finds scope Travelers' adjuster missed, we document and submit a supplement with photos, measurements, and Xactimate line items for Travelers to review.
Travelers may offer a virtual inspection option. You can request an in-person inspection if you believe a virtual review is insufficient for your damage.
If you bundle Travelers auto and home, your home claim is handled separately from your auto policy. IntelliDrive and auto programs do not affect your home claim.
Most Travelers hail claims in Michigan resolve in 2–6 weeks from filing. Supplement reviews add time. Phase III tracks your claim status throughout the process.
Michigan law gives policyholders the right to select any licensed contractor for their repairs. Travelers cannot require you to use a specific vendor or preferred contractor list.
If you believe the initial adjuster inspection was incomplete or inaccurate, you can request a re-inspection by Travelers or arrange for an independent assessment of your damage.
If you and Travelers disagree on the amount of loss, your policy may include an appraisal process where each party selects an independent appraiser to resolve the dispute.
You are entitled to receive a complete, itemized Xactimate estimate from Travelers documenting every line item of your approved claim scope and pricing.
You can submit a supplement to Travelers at any time during the repair process if additional damage or missed scope is identified and documented. Travelers is required to review and respond.
Michigan's Uniform Trade Practices Act requires insurers to acknowledge claims promptly and communicate claim decisions in a timely manner. Delays in response may have regulatory implications.
Actual Cash Value equals the Replacement Cost of your damaged property minus depreciation. Depreciation accounts for the age and condition of materials like your roof shingles.
When Travelers issues your initial payment, it is typically the ACV amount. The difference between ACV and full replacement cost is called recoverable depreciation, which Travelers withholds until repairs are completed.
If your Travelers policy includes Replacement Cost Value coverage, you are entitled to the full cost of repairing or replacing damaged property with like kind and quality — without a depreciation deduction.
Travelers pays the ACV amount upfront, then releases the recoverable depreciation (holdback) after you submit a signed contractor agreement and completion documentation showing repairs are done.
